The NEWSPLAN 2000 Project saved 1,325 of the most endangered
UK local newspaper titles and preserved them for future generations
through a unique partnership between the Heritage
Lottery Fund (HLF), the UK Regional Newspaper Industry,
and UK libraries.
UK REGIONAL NEWSPAPER INDUSTRY
From the outset of the project, the UK Regional Newspaper
Industry and its professional associations, the
Newspaper Society and the Scottish Newspapers Proprietors
Association, took an unparalleled interest and constructive
involvement in supporting and contributing to the safeguarding
and preservation of the rich history of local newspapers that
have been created and have flourished over generations in
every part of the UK.
The Project - and all those both across the UK and all over
the world who use local newspapers and care about them - express
their warm gratitude to all the UK industry groups that contributed
to the work of the Project.

HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND
The NEWSPLAN 2000 Project was supported by a grant from the

and its officers who did so much to support and assist the
project team over the duration of the project.
